Originally it was renamed from the “Department of War” to the “Department of Defense”.  Rush Limbaugh on a show once said the purpose of the Military is to “Kill people and break things”. Another purpose of the military is to put in place the ability to “keep American Citizens from getting killed and injured.”

Eight years of Obama and four years of “the Corpse” and the Military became an experiment in societal change in lieu the traditional purpose.  If social change in the Military does not affect preparedness, then it goes unnoticed.  However, much of the social change attempts were affecting preparedness.

One effect had been the various branches meeting their recruiting and retention goals.  I have been told that if the way of life in Military and specific personalities match then a long military career can occur.  The military in many cases is a family tradition.  I have the feeling that family conversations had been interesting during this period when the past met the current.  Discussion of family members include how long to remain in the Military and family members with longer careers not understanding why early retirement is an option.

President Trump felt the status quo was a problem and solicited Pete Hegseth to lead the helm and return the name of the department to its former name, “Department of War”.  Hegseth noted a variety of problems to fix. In the world of remote meetings I can guarantee that in person meetings carry more impact than remote and video meetings.  Hegseth took a risk and had the Military leaders all meet in the same room. He trusted his department enough to take that risk.

His directive of the meeting is the military is going to be an in shape ready group. That included the leadership.

If a Military is good, the defense will be in place.  The concept of Obama and Biden both having a Russia Ukraine conflict helps us understand that there was a readiness problem.  Trump did not have a problem of this nature in his first term.  He is still cleaning up the Corpse/Obama mess.

This move seems to state to potential adversaries of the United Stats and world that the United States is ready, back off if you know what is best for you.
