162 That look when

It's time for editorialpinups.com have some fun at the expense of sports leagues that want to promote one player over another, especially when the player is not as popular or game changing.
I confess, I have been brought to actively watch the WNBA, specifically the Indiana Fever, by the greatness of Caitlin Clark. The leading all time NCAA Division 1 basketball scorer, men and women, playing a refreshing fast pace game which includes hitting teammates with surgically precise passing. She beat the late Pistol Peat Maravich who I have seen play on television both college and professionally. Two things both scorers had in common was the passing game and the ability to hit long shots. Maravich played before the three point line was implemented.
Clark's first season in the WNBA showcased the talent that she was that surpassed what Maravich had in the NBA. Clark picked first by the Indiana Fever a team that had such a propensity for losing that she was the second first round pick in a row by the Fever. Clark set a dozen records as a Rookie. You would think the WNBA would celebrate.
But for some reason in Clark's second WNBA season they treated her the way the corporations treated Jonathan E in the movie Rollerball. Clark played 13 games in which the team went 8 and 5. It should be noted that the Fever have 6 players out injured for game one of the playoffs. The team for the whole season was quite good and with a 24 and 20 record with constantly having to replace the injured players, but that 8 and 5 records would be increased to at least 28 and 16 and would have moved them up to forth in the playoff standings.
Why is this relevant? It is because before the first playoff game today between the Indiana Fever and the Las Vegas Aces, Aces player A'ja Wilson who is the big favorite player of the WNBA management and many teams note that she has a special whistle used by the referees was given her MVP award for the season. This led to the sportscasters making the whole game A'ja this and A'ja that.
Unfortunately A'ja had a good game if she was anyone else but for MVP A'ja it was mediocre at best, 4 personal fouls, 14 points, and 13 rebounds. The announcers started choking on the pride and had to broadcast saying the great game the the Indian Fever and fifth place MVP vote getter Kelsey Mitchell 34 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. The Fever beat the Aces 16.
One more note, living in Cedar Rapids Iowa for the past 8 years, I will say that until Caitlin Clark was drafted by the Fever, there never was a professional sports team in Indiana that has been given priority sports coverage on WMT AM 600. In fact to have anything Indiana take a precedence on an Iowa radio station was unheard of.
A'ja is a very good player. She has four MVP's and two rings. Being a center player she does not control the game, she is a major contributor. Michael Jordan controlled games. Chamberlain, Jabbar, and Bill Russell contributed to games. LeBron James is a mix of both.
All players can have a bad day at the office. However, what was supposed to be the A'ja Wilson show became the Indiana Fever show led by Kelsey Mitchell and the rest of the Fever. Oh, the worlds is so unfair!
Yes, that look when everyone was trying to make it your big day and it just did not come out just right.
