163 Kimmel

I confess.  I have worked in professional media for both a mid-major daily newspaper, The Moline Dispatch” and also in professional small town radio, first in Monticello Minnesota, Next, Geneseo Illinois, last in Kewanee Illinois. I left the Dispatch on my own as my schedule changed and was unable to continue.  The first two radio gigs died when the stations went dark.

The Kewanee station sent me an email saying not to come to work.  The decision was made by the station management.  I admit, I pushed a few limits, but that is what radio has always been about.  I had loyal listeners and I am sure I had complaints.  That is normal when you put yourself in the entertainment category, except that I was doing a news report then winged it when there was time left.

So Jimmy Kimmel, I have an idea what it is like when they management finally has had enough.  Unlike you there was no collateral staff that could lose their job, it was just me.

Reports say that Kimmel’s ratings have been going down especially in key demographics. I did not have advertisers pull their adds or request lower rates because of what I was saying.  It was management’s decision.

Kimmel needs to look at the whole picture.  The Kirk situation is more a situation of convenience.  Kimmel’s contract is up in 2026 from reports I have heard.  ABC/Disney is most likely working on a replacement.

In the meantime, I will continue to not watch Kimmel as I have always by choice not watched Kimmel.

Kimmel, getting fired from a media gig is a sign of success.  Enjoy it when it happens!!
