173 Chicago Sucks Road Money
Descriptions > Other backgrounds
I confess, when I am in Illinois I am close enough to Iowa to purchase gas there avoiding the Illinois “Tax infested gas”. But another reason for this is to avoid contributing to this out of balance situation.
Looking at the landmass of the state of Illinois it can be seen that the majority of the land is out state. There are numerous communities, small businesses, even large businesses in existence. There is also a large agricultural presence with both the “who knows what we do with the field corn and soybeans crops”, but also cattle finishing, hogs, chickens and turkeys. You can also see the canning companies from the roads occasionally, so there is also the items like green beans, peas and sweet corn happening.
Lest it is forgotten that during the depression the federal government created the system of farm subsidies. The reason, it did not pay for the farmers to harvest and feed the city folks as they had no money or food was not their financial priority. It was these subsidies eventually coming from city dwellers tax payments that went to the priority of feeding the masses.
I want to remind the Chicago area populace that you have a problem. You have items in your infrastructure budget that you refused to pay for and then decide to suck the funds from the rest of the state. As reported here, https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid022koYud6jeom79HnTL3JJiVrcbAXmywSmnXvsxJ1z9tv5Qg8UsDSfS3PYhvTWKtXHl&id=100064550777572 the state of Illinois currently is taking 55% for out state roads in funding to 45% to the Chicago area. I will remind that out state depending on who states the definition includes part of the Chicago metro fringe area. Yes, Rochelle, Dixon, Morris, have crept into the living contributory regions of Chicago, yet these were mere rural areas as short as thirty-five years ago.
This report quotes: According to report by Capitol Fax:
"85% of the sales tax money would go to northeastern Illinois and 15% to Downstate. And 90% of the Road Fund interest would go to what’s now called the RTA region, and 10 percent would go to Downstate capital projects."
The ills of Illinois spending and priorities will never be corrected until it is realized that Chicago and its suburbs must be honest in what their expenses and desires are. Chicago sees out state as a place where dirt roads and fords dominate with many having never left the Chicago metro boundaries. It is said that Jessie Jackson Junior suffered system shock when his house district was redistricted and included agricultural areas of which he had no clue as to what they were.
The next election cycle is coming up. It is important that out state voters and candidates realize that they are not part of the Chicago regime. They must represent their interests. Out state Democrats need to look to their Republican neighbors and say enough is enough to Chicago. Dump the likes of Pritzker, House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, D-Hillside, and Illinois Senate is President Don Harmon.
Illinois could become a great state to live. Many sane people have lived and grew up there. However, the elected representation at the state level is so weak that the state is drying up and people are leaving faster than they are entering. At this pace, the last one out will not have to turn the lights out, they won’t be able to turn them on!
